Die for Me by Amy Plum

Die for Me by Amy Plum
Grade: YA
Rating: 3.5/5
Fave Quote: “Well, spit on my empty grave- if it aint the attack of the Disney Princesses”.

Kate and her sister Georgia’s lives will never be the same. After the tragic deaths of their parents they move from New York to Paris, to live with their grandparents. Since they’ve been coming to Paris since they were young, the move itself isn’t much of an adjustment. However, the pain and lose they feel after the deaths remain with them. The girls deal with this in different ways. Georgia (the eldest) drowns her sorrows by constantly going out and surrounding herself with people. Kate, on the other hand, becomes a recluse; preferring to spend her time lost in a novel or visiting museums. That is, until she meets the mysterious and sexy Vincent. Now Kate finds herself in the middle of an ancient battle that could cost her everything she loves.

The description of Paris is just amazing. Amy Plum paints a beautiful picture and the city becomes a character within itself. You feel like your really there having a coffee in a café with Kate.
The side characters Ambrose and Jules are just awesome. They are cheeky little buggers who you can’t help but fall in love with. I also loved Kate’s relationship with her sister (since I don’t have a sister it’s what I’ve always imagined having a sister would be like). At times they fought, but at the end of the day, they had each others back.

I enjoyed the majority of the book. There were, however, a couple of things that I found a bit off putting. Vincent, though I loved (especially at the beginning when he was just slightly cocky), ended up being a little too “perfect” for me. He was very sweet but it just didn’t feel natural to me. Also, it didn’t make sense that Kate would get offended if Vincent was to buy her jewellery, however its fine for Kate to willingly want to sacrifice her life for him if the need arose. I think some perspective is needed there.

Other than that, I did enjoy it. It was a nice easy read.
